Other Power Studies
KRCD has been researching opportunities to expand its already important role in valley power. Planning sessions, studies and widening rounds of discussions have been conducted with the goal of developing a means for increased reliability of electrical service at lower and more stable prices.
Previous studies on additional hydroelectric projects were pursued in the 1980s and looked at again in 2001 in response to the energy crisis. The Dinkey Creek Project was designed and nearly began construction, but the project was halted in 1986. The Rodgers Crossing Project was also brought to a standstill due to financial issues and Congressional action, which placed the site in a special federal management area in 1986.
KRCD has looked into the feasibility of installing low-flow hydroelectric generation facilities on existing weirs and headgates.
KRCD also worked on permitting a 565-megawatt, gas-fired power plant. The Community Power Plant was to be sited in the Parlier area.
