Water Quality Surveys
The Kings River is subject to a great deal of monitoring. Examples of such monitoring
include water temperature, river flow and fish populations. However, the Fisheries
Management Program recognizes the necessity of additional monitoring to protect,
preserve and enhance the river's resources. The task of conducting additional
monitoring proposes the investigation of baseline sampling and monitoring of water
quality in the Kings River from Pine Flat Dam downstream to Highway 180.
In the past, sporadic monitoring has occurred on an as-needed basis by various
agencies. Currently, several groups are looking into regional water quality issues
that affect the southern San Joaquin Valley rivers.
The Fisheries Management Program has conducted initial water quality studies. The
findings from these studies can be found in the Water Quality Monitoring Report 2004-2005.
The Kings River Water Association (KRWA) reports daily water conditions on their
website. These daily reports consist of hydro data regarding water storage,
stream flows, water releases and precipitation. Look here to find the current status
of the Hydro Data.
