Thorburn Spawning Channel
KRCD led the effort to restore an unused side channel to improve the spawning and rearing habitat for trout by providing shelter from the river’s swift currents. KRCD staff works hard to maintain and constantly improve the channel.
The 2000-foot long Thorburn Spawning Channel was constructed during the spring of 2000. To ensure that the channel continues to function properly, pest weeds are routinely eliminated and the site is monitored for channel erosion. An irrigation system and native trees have also been installed and maintained at the site.
