Ripping and Jetties

Channel ripping is one of several activities that improve the Kings River’s fishery habitat.

The Kings River’s hardened channel bed is routinely ripped to expose the buried spawning gravel. Much of the cobblestones and other materials ripped from the channel are used to create jetties.

The ripping and jetty construction projects provide a way to create and enhance rearing habitat for juvenile fish as well as provide cover, resting areas, feeding areas and spawning sites for adult fish.
